September 2023 – Pool Update

Hi everyone,
Well, we are into August and Xmas is fast approaching.
There have been three tournaments held in August and these were: Allan Cowan Memorial All Grades, The Papanui Men’s Master’s and The Canterbury Open and Ladies Pairs.
The Allan Cowan Memorial All Grades is one of the biggest Canterbury tournaments held in Christchurch. Allan was all about promoting new players into the game, so it was really nice to see so many new faces play.
Hornby had almost 30 players competing in this tournament and out of the 30 players, Steve Denton, who plays out of the Hornby Titans, took out the top spot in Tier 1 over Brad Goodmanson from Papanui.
Tier 1

• Quarter Finalist – Barry Henderson
• Last 16 – Paul Hinch & Devan Bramley
Tier 2
• Quarter Finalist – Sherralee Boyce & Lee Brady
• Last 16 – Corien Simpson & Ricky Bell
Tier 3
• Last 16 – Stephen Duddy & Scott Broomhal
The Papanui Men’s Master’s had a huge field of 96, over 50’s men, and Hornby held themselves well with Alan Robertson and Roger Tarry making it to the semifinals of the championship event and Al Collins made the semi in the Trophy event.

Trophy Event
• Semi-Finalists – Al Collins
• Quarter Finalist – Ricky Bell
• Last 16 – Graham Walker
Last, but not least the Canterbury Open and Ladies Pairs were held.
In the ladies we had six make the Championship event with Celia Bason and Catriona McLean (playing under the Hornby banner) making the Semi-Final and Sue Wakefield and Sharon Schwass, who were also playing out of Hornby, taking out the final of the Trophy Event.

Trophy Event
• Winner – Sue Wakefield & Sharon Schwass
In the Open Pairs, we had both finalists in the Championship Trophy event and we also had a Hornby pairing in the Trophy Event as well.

• Finalist – Dave Donohoe & Paul Morris
• Quarter Finalist – Barry Henderson & Ala Robertson / John Gower & Graham Carr
