September 2023 – All Sports Update

The event was held on Sunday 6 August.

We had 70 members (seven teams) playing in the afternoon tournament, all enjoying playing games of Euchre, and having fun on the day. However, it was disappointing that only five sections were represented, compared to all our 12 sports sections within the Club. A team consists of 10 players per section. So, thanks to Cards, Crib, Golf, Travel, and the Bowls Sections, who put forward their teams, to support the All Sports Tournament.

At the end of seven rounds of play, there was a two-way tie between both the Cole Family Team and the Golf Section Team on 24pts each. Next placing went to the Cards 1 Team on 18 1/2 pts. Congratulations to the winning teams.

We finished off the afternoon with platters of afternoon tea, and then the presentation of the trophy to the two teams. Graham Cole, on behalf of the family of Alan Cole, thanked everyone, and the All Sports for hosting this special tournament.

On behalf of Moggy, All Sports President, he would like to thank all those that helped in the set up prior, and during the afternoon. Adrienne, Bernie and Gwen on raffles, Jean and Bevan at front desk were runners for drinks. Also to those few members, at the end of the day, that went back upstairs to put away all the tables and chairs into the store-rooms.

Our next All Sports Tournament will be the “Dick Bain Trophy” on Friday 6 October. Dick Bain sadly deceased in Sept 2011. He was a loyal past member, who was passionate, especially following all Sporting sections, playing tournaments at local Christchurch Clubs, wherever Hornby players were playing, he would go and watch and support. He would even go on his bike, or bus, or ask for a ride.

It will be great to have a good turnout on our last Friday night All Sports Tournament for the year, with all Sections putting a team in. Ask your delegate, to All Sports, if you can play in your team.
