October 2024 – Cards Update

Hi to all members and families.

Here we are, a perfect place for gathering with friends at the Hornby Club for some spirited card games and social times.

There is always lots happening within our Cards/Euchre Section, with Card night being every Thursday night, between 7pm to 9.15pm. It’s held in the Glassworks Room, through the Chalmers Restaurant.

On Thursday 29th August, we held our ever popular, end of month pairs night. We had 50 players playing with their chosen partner. The highlight of the night was the winning of the “Perfect Hand” (2 Bows, Ace, King, Queen, of the HEARTS suit played). Every week during the year, we have $5 put aside jack potting for when this may occur. On this night, it was won by Vivienne Eveleigh, dealt by her partner Marina Coles. This hasn’t been won for at least six months, so Viv was happy.

Two weeks after the Perfect Hand played out on pairs night, we had another Perfect Hand, with Robyn Braggins getting all top five Diamonds. Robyn got a very small payout.

The overall winners on the pair’s night were Jimmy Patu and Trevor Tubman on 18 pts, with four other pairs sharing 2nd equal prizemoney.

The second round of Aggregate Games have now been completed, with winning scores each week.

Week 1-3: in last month’s report.

Week 4: 45 players, Russell Reekie 19 pts, Lesley Bulman 18 pts

Week 5: 43 players, Both Bruce McIntosh & Cheryl Gianelly tied on 19 pts

Week 6: final night, 41 players, Ricky Winter, Gwen Kirk, Marina Coles, Lorraine Cole, a four way tie on 18 pts.

Scores have been calculated, if all 6 weeks played by player, lowest score taken off, to decide the winners of the cash payout prizes.

Results were displayed, and presentations were made on Thurs 26th of September.

The winner overall was Gina Howden-Winter on 81pts, 2nd equal was Jack Jenman and Bruce McIntosh on 79 pts, third place was Cheryl Gianelly on 76 pts, with closely behind, Lesley Bulman, Lorraine Cole and Maurice King on 75 pts.

A big thank you to all who played. You all ensure the competition remains strong.

We have a series of entertaining nights coming your way for you to enjoy, we look forward to good numbers each night.

The Winter Tournament Games are down to the last Semi Finals for four pairs. The final will be played after this. The Shield Trophy will be presented at our Christmas Hamper Night on 5th December.
