May 2025 Update Indoor Bowls

Hi, Members,

As the year progresses rapidly, daylight saving time has concluded and temperatures have noticeably decreased. The Indoor Bowls season is now in gear.

Results from the Canterbury Chartered Club Singles, held at Hornby on 13th April, from 16 Qualifiers, eight were from Hornby. They are Dave Bullock, Dave Woods, Mike King, Chris Matthews, John Barltrop, Darryl Gallagher, Grant Richardson and Bev Diamond. The winner, after a great final, was Chris with Dave Woods second and John third equal (photo attached).

In the Canterbury /NZ mixed Pairs, John Barltrop and Keren Beckett, along with Chris and Donna Matthews, reached the last eight. A great effort.

Over Easter we had a great contingent trip to Ashburton to play in the Clubs NZ South Island Tournament. On Friday, in the singles qualifiers, there were Dixon, Darryl, Bev, John, Mike, Dave Woods and Grant Richardson. John reached the last eight, while Mike was 3rd equal (photo attached).

Mike, Dave, Darryl, and Jenny Hamilton qualified in a strong section during the Fours on Saturday but were eliminated in the first round.

Pairs on Sunday qualifiers were Dave B and Mike, John and Keren, Grant and Bev. They were alongside Dave and Blair Woods who were entered through Papanui. Dave and Blair and Grant and Bev reached the semi-finals (photos attached). Runner up was Dave and Mike (photo attached). The winner was Darryl Gallagher playing with Michael Lawson who entered through the Papanui Club.

Triples on Monday saw Mike, Dave, Jenny, John, Andrew Perkins and Keren qualify along with the Dave Woods team through Papanui.

John’s team reached the last eight. Mike’s team was third equal. A great effort from all the Hornby players over the four days. In the meantime, keep warm and all the best for all upcoming tournaments.
