June 2025 – Cards Update
Sunday 1 Jun, 2025
Hi Members, here we are, into June, with lots always happening within our Card Section.
To recap from last month… on April 24th, we had a great turnout for our end of month pairs night with 62 players, enjoying the fun night. The winners on the night were Lesley Bulman and Gina Howden-Winter, on 20 pts, with Faye Salton and Marleen 2nd on 19pts, and Jack Jenman and Paul McOscar a close 3rd on 18 pts.
Thursday 1st May was a normal progressive night. On Thursday 8th May, we played for our yearly Men’s vs Ladies Night. We have a trophy for this night that was donated back in 1998 by a card section member from wayback ‘Mr Eric Pycroft ‘. We had 54 players on this night, and yes CONGRATS to the men as they won THIS year. Our overall scoring at end of night was based on percentage average, and the men came through on top. The men proudly had their photo taken the next week, as you can see. The players with most points on the night were Dave Luke first and Murray Bennie and Helen James second equal.
Within two weeks we had two members, Trevor Tubman and Fran Goulden, both dealt the perfect hand, which is not easy to get, a wee cash payout for each.
On 15th and 22nd May we had normal progressive nights with 58-60 players attending on both nights.
We have played three games Interclub to date, with two wins and one loss. The next game is on 3rd June, it will include nine pairs of Euchre and four pairs of Crib, play each week. We have a long way to go,12 weeks of play. We play five Christchurch clubs in all, three times each, so will update as we go.
On 5th June, we start our first set of Aggregate Games. Basically, we play normal Progressive Games over the next six weeks, and your scores at end of each night are added to your accumulated total. We take the best 5 scores and drop one weeks score to see the best all-round total for these nights. The last night is on 10th July.
To finish off, we welcome any new members, to come and play. You should know the concept of the game to play. Every Thursday night, start play at 7pm till 9.15pm approx. (report by 6.50pm) and be a Hornby Club member. Cost is
$4.00 per night, with extra money to buy some raffles for our fundraising of activities we have, during the year.
Til next month,
Lorraine Cole
