July 2024 – Pool Update
Thursday 27 Jun, 2024
It’s been a busy month in the Pool Section.
We started with the Ladies Pairs, won for the second year in a row by Maxine Soal and Letitia Jackson over last year’s runners-up Sherralee Boyce and Corien Simpson.

The Ladies South Islands and Open South Island Tournaments were held concurrently in the Invercargill Workingmen’s Club over King’s Birthday weekend and the following week.
As usual, Hornby was well represented in both the Ladies and the Open tournaments, with Corien Simpson and Gina Grimwood coming Runners Up in the Ladies Pairs and Paul Blackler getting to the Semi Final in the Open Singles. Other notable achievements were Gary Oliver and Corien Simpson taking out the Open Trophy Pairs, Corien winning the Ladies Trophy Singles, Francis Chapman and Sue Wakefield runners up in the Ladies Trophy Pairs. Hornby came runners up in the Teams Trophy by a mere eight points, the points from one win result, to Cashmere, so close.
From 18 to 24 June, we have Sherralee Boyce, John Renwick, Tony Gumley, Maxine Soal and Letitia Jackson from the Hornby Pool Section in the New Zealand Team playing in the WEPF 8 Ball World Champs in Blackpool England. A tough tournament, but from the looks of the results we are in the hunt.
Last week was the Ladies Single in-house tournament, with Liz Hullen beating Aileen Barnes in the final.

The Canterbury Ladies Singles and Canterbury Open Singles were played concurrently at Cashmere this weekend. There were a few notable performances from Hornby, including the Hornby Ladies taking out the Teams Trophy over Cashmere and the Hornby Open team reversing the result, coming second to Cashmere. Pauline Morris won the Ladies Trophy competition, with Corein Simpson getting to the quarter finals of the main. Paul Blackler went through to the Semi Finals, repeating his effort at the South Islands with Alan Robertson getting to the Quarter Finals, and Graham Carr getting to the final of the Main Flight.
Thanks, from the Pool section.
