July 2024 – Cards Update
Thursday 27 Jun, 2024
Hello to all our club members.
We are now into July, one of our coldest months, but our Hornby Club and members are still very much in action.
Our Cards Euchre Section on every Thursday night continues with good turnouts. Including new members recently enjoying being part of our section.
We finished off last month with our ever-popular end of month pairs night on 30 May. Most people have their partners already sorted, or we arrange for others. We had a full room of 15 tables, 60 players, an awesome turnout, with such a great, fun atmosphere.
At half time, we had our special supper, not usual biscuits, but Cards section provided more this week with savouries, sandwiches, chicken pieces, fish bites and lamingtons. This went down a treat with everyone on the night. At the end of the night, after results, we had on first with 22 pts, Murray Bennie/Bruce McIntosh, and second equal both on19 pts, Jimmy Patu/Trevor Tubman and Gavin Dunn/Rae Treloar. A great night was held by all that were there.
The next Thursday night on 6 June, we had our first aggregate night of the next six weeks. We had 42 members on the night, which was awesome, as it was such an awful night to come out. Top scorers on the night were Warren Grimwood on 19, and on 18 were, Trevor Tubman, Tom Rae and Jack Jenman.
On Thursday 13 June, it was our second aggregate night. We had two winners, with first equal Terry McCallum and Warren Grimwood on 20 pts, and John Churchil on 18 pts.
On Sunday 16 June, we hosted our six handed tournament, which is open to all clubs. We had full 10 tables, 60 players. Prior to payouts to the winners on the day, I did ask if everyone enjoyed the afternoon, and they all said yes, so that was excellent feedback.
Results on the afternoon went in favour to Hornby players, first was Anne Hepburn, Bev Bulmer, and Helen James on 22 pts, and second prize went to Maurice Adler, Maurice King, and Jimmy Patu on 21 pts. Third went to three loyal members from New Brighton.
Saturday Interclub is not going so well at this stage, but we all know you need to get the cards in each and every hand.
19 I hope everyone enjoys the All-Sports Dumbo Hampton Night playing against with all our other sections.
Regards
Lorraine Cole
