February 2025 – Outdoor Bowls Update

Tradition has it that we start the year off with the task of securing the State of Origin trophy. It was great to see so many smiley faces eagerly waiting to get out onto the bowling green.
Four teams of four players and two teams of three players lined up to accept the challenge on the Bowls Hornby green.
The other challenge was the weather forecast which was predicting heavy rain approaching from the south around 3pm.
The Bowls Hornby green was in great shape and the teams were keen to get started.
There was plenty of action as the bowlers endeavoured to close in on the “Kitty”.
The weather held out and in the final count up, the two top teams were:
1st place: Russell Reekie (s) Joycie Wood, Ivan Swain and Derek Shearer.
2nd place: John Bowley, Jenny Bodger and Dave Richards.
Our next game will be for the Webster Trophy on the 23rd February at Bowls Hornby.
We have a team competing in the Clubs New Zealand National Men’s Tournament.
This is being hosted by the Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club from 10th February to 15th February. We wish them well and will keep you informed of the results.
