February 2025 – Cards Update

Saturday 1 Feb, 2025

Hello to all members, families and friends.

I hope everyone had the chance to share special moments with family and friends over the Christmas and New Year break. Yes, time sure flies, January is behind us already, and we are excited to get back into our card section activities for 2025. But firstly, to recap…

We had our last pairs night on 28th November, with 58 players, some members wearing Xmas bling, as per photo. We had a tie at the end of night, on 18pts. Was Paul Bulman and Ricky Winter, with Wayne Scott and Bruce Bell. A great fun night, as always, for the end of month pairs.

Our section finished off our year’s activities with our Annual Hamper Night, on Thursday December 5th. We had 66 members attend, upstairs in the Mezzanine Floor.

We started off the evening with our end-of-year presentations. The Winter Tournament Shield was presented to Cheryl Gianelly and Gina Howden-Winter, and the runners-up prize was presented to John Churchil and Allan Shears. The Euchre Trophy of the Year was given to Bernie McKenzie for her contribution to our Section.

We then had our choice of a set evening meal, prior to playing eight games of Euchre. At the conclusion of games, we held the drawing of the 30-odd Raffle Pick Of The Table prizes, and then we paid out the many card results prizes from the array of Hamper prizes as well. Dave McKay finished with highest points, taking home his choice of a Half Ham. Then prizes were taken from the table from there, based on points won.

So, we move on, into February… We are starting back Euchre with a fun night on Thursday 13th February, usual start time, 7pm, be there by 6.45pm. We will be playing five games of Bingo/Housie. Everything is provided, and approximately eight games of Euchre will be played. There is supper available, served at the half-time break.

The weeks to follow, you will notice we have copies of our 2025 programme, which will be on display on our Card Section Notice Board, on the right, under the stairwell, as you walk into the Main Legends Bar. It will be available to take on our Thursday night games.

Remember we have our Thursday End of Month Pairs Night on most months, where you choose your partner to play for the complete night, or we can organise one for you. These nights have an extra fun atmosphere to them.

We are always happy and look forward to having new members come and join us on our Thursday Club nights in the Glassworks Room (go through the Chalmers Restaurant to the left of the front office reception desk). But it is best that you know the concept of playing Euchre prior, to make it easier for yourself.

And to our loyal regular members, we look forward to seeing all your happy faces, enjoying our section activities. There will be an email coming out shortly to all on the section list, giving updates as well.
