August 2024 – Pool Update
Thursday 1 Aug, 2024
It’s a bit of a quiet time for the Pool Section, apart from the Ladies Nationals in Tauranga, where Hornby had it’s ‘usual suspects’ travelling north for a week in the relative warmth of the Bay for a bit of pool.
Standouts were Letitia Jackson reaching the last 16 of the main draw and Liz Hullen getting into the last 32. Corien Simpson won the Trophy Final rather well after a tough session in section play.
The Ian Davidson Memorial Drawn pairs was held at Richmond a few weeks ago, with Mabel Silbery from Hornby pairing with Kerry Ashbrook from Richmond. They won the main event. Julie-Anne Boyce of Hornby paired with Kaiapoi’s Trish O’Neill to win the Trophy event. A good result for Hornby having a player in both finals, well done Ladies.
John Gower is teaching a class of 12 St Thomas Year 13 students in the ‘Pool for Schools’ program. From all reports, there is a fair bit of enthusiasm amongst the young men from St Thomas’s who are participating in the program. It has already garnered a few new club members as some parents have come along and realised what a great facility we have here at the Hornby Club, as well as increasing the numbers in the pool section. Thanks John!
We have a busy few weeks coming up with the Allan Cowan Tournament, Canterbury Men’s Masters, and the Canterbury Open Pairs and ladies Pairs all in consecutive weekends. These are followed by our in-house Booth Anderson Open Singles. Busy, busy, busy. Go Hornby Pool!
