August 2023 Indoor Bowls Update

Welcome members,

June and July have been very busy months with the NZ Nationals up in New Plymouth, Clubs NZ Men’s Nationals hosted by Richmond mid-June and various other tournaments. Only two of our members travelled up for the NZ Nationals, Bev Diamond and Shane Bell, qualifying in the pairs, triples with a lady from Richmond and playing with two players from the Upper Hutt School in the fours. Unfortunately, in all events, they didn’t achieve any results.

In the Chartered Club Pairs Dave Bullock and Mike King won, with Dave achieving his gold star. This is an awesome achievement, Dave. Kate-Rae and Pat Boticia were runner up.

The winners of our club championship drawn pairs were Justin Thompson and Ian Eddy. The Runner up was Mike King and Dave Jamieson.

The men had fantastic results from the Men’s Nationals held at Richmond. Overall, we had 12 men participating.

Pairs – 2nd Dave Bullock and Mike King

Triples – 1st Chris Matthews, Shane Bell and Darryl Gallagher

Fours – 1st Chris Matthews, Dave Bullock, Mike King and Shane Bell

Overall aggregate results placed Hornby fourth out of 22 clubs participating, this is a great effort over the week.

Hornby had two teams enter to play the Packman Trophy at Richmond on 4 July.

Hornby A, consisting of Mike King, Dave Bullock, Julie Dalley, Jenny Hamilton and Bev Diamond were runner up. Hornby B made up of Chris Matthews, Justin Thompson, Pat and Katie-Rae Boticia and Jude Will were third. A great effort Hornby!

Canterbury Pairs were won by Justin Thompson playing with Ann Graham from Richmond. In third equal was Shane Bell and Darryl Gallagher and Dave Bullock and Mike King.

Hornby players are going strongly and making their appearance known at all tournaments. Keep up the good results everyone.
