November 2022 All Sports Night

Last month, Friday 7 October, we got to play our second special All Sports Night, “The Dick Bain Trophy”. Dick was a past loyal member of our club, he passed away in 2011. He loved to watch and support other sporting sections, when playing interclub, major tournaments, or in-house tournaments. He was proud of our Hornby Club.

We had 10 teams play on the night, all but two sections put forward teams, which was good as far as participation. The usual games were played, Pool, Darts, Mini Golf, Quoits, Indoor Bowls and Euchre. Due to team numbers and draw, all teams had a double up of one discipline event, but this was the same for all teams.

Congratulations to the winning section team on the night, first was Crib2 on 19 1/2 pts, closely second Darts on 18 1/2 pts, third Golf on 18 pts, and fourth Bowls on 17pts. Very close scores .Well done to everybody, and even if your team was not up there in top scores, as long as you enjoyed the meeting and fun time with other sporting sections, who you may or may not met before.

As usual, there were multiple raffles for sale, and lots of cash prizes. The night finished off with supper.

It was special to have Sam Bain (Dick’s son) and his wife Milly, to be there to present the trophy to the winning Crib2 team, in honour of his late father. Sam even got to play games on the night, which he enjoyed.

To finish off, thank you to Moggy and Adrienne, and Dave Rosson, and to the helpers, that gave their time, to put on this tournament in set up, of mats etc, writing up score boards and those running the raffles during the whole night.

That’s the last All Sports Tournament for this year. Next May 2023, the Les Griffiths Tournament will be held.
