September 2024 – Travel Update

Friday 30 Aug, 2024

Hello everyone

The warmer temperatures have been welcomed in the last few days. However not the nor-westers.

Unfortunately, the nor-westers totally disrupted our plans for the visit to Mt Hobbs and Erewhon station, after it received massive amounts of rain which flooded the gorges and scoured the hillsides, causing us to postpone our plans until another time.

These venues are both very popular places to visit, so it is causing some hardship to find the two venues available. We are working very hard to rectify this and the moment we manage to have a date locked in, you will all be made aware of it.

I know it is disappointing for the 53 members who had put their names forward and paid their money. We will get it sorted, however. We never would have expected four continuous days of nor-westers at this time of year.

We are not immune to having to postpone outings though, as I recall vividly the Kaiapoi river cruise which took four times of changing days until finally settling on a date, or the time we were going to Timaru and stopped off at The Lake Hood for lunch when the phone call came through advising the Rangitata river was in flood and the bridge was closed.

We always overcome these hurdles so I am confident we can do so again.

Also, in the planning stage is a trip to Akaroa in October and the Travel Christmas Party. The party will be held in the Event Hall on the 7th of December.

Kind regards

Lyn Wright
