September 2024 – Managers Update

Hi Members.

A steady August saw us push through that cold patch and on into SPRING!!.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. Hope you enjoy your day, and if you make it to the Club, trust you had an enjoyable experience with your family and/or friends.

With Spring we have the Race Season starting and TAB updating the racing area with some new odds screens and acoustic panels in the second week. In doing this we will no longer be printing out odds sheets as they will be available on the large tablets provided.

We had a fantastic 10-week bingo run for our members, averaging over 200 people a week. Thank you for supporting the bingo.

Our weekly quiz night continues until the end of September with tight competition being had at the top for 1st and 3rd, and an outside chance for 3rd to become a 3 or 4 horse race.

On a frustrating but understandable note, food and coffee prices will see incremental increases over the next month, as we are unable to absorb the supplier increases. This will be most noticeable for the Sunday Buffet for standard members, guests and affiliates where the price will increase to $40.

For Senior, Long Service and 50 year plus the price will remain at $35.

Back to more positive news, it has been great to see the sections busy and active in the Club. Having strong sections is key to the success of New Zealand Clubs and our teams have and continue to represent Hornby Club so well.

Our Olympians have made us all proud, in both the way they competed, and, in the success, they bought themselves and our country. It was fantastic to see Lydia go on to win at St Andrews, continuing her Olympic success, and what sportsmanship shown from Hayden Wilde and Emma Twigg, celebrating their second places and their opponent’s victory so positively.

Coming up this month

On the big screen in September:

• We have the All Blacks playing South Africa and will be showing replays in the mornings in Legends Bar, so come on down and grab a coffee and breakfast and enjoy the game.
• The Bledisloe Kicks off on the 21st before the Fleetwood Mac tribute. Check out our Alpine Room / Box tickets and what they include. It’s a great deal and spot to watch the game.
• Warriors continue their round robin play, although the top 8 finish is no longer possible, they have shown they are a competitive team with real flair, as we all know.
• 37th America’s Cup Louis Vuitton Cup kicks off this month. Highlights will be shown in the Club the following day from 10am after the competition

Members Draws

Chase the Ace continues to grow, Crack the Cube was won again last month, and our Wednesday Draws are still a popular option for our members. Looking forward to seeing you in the Club for these draws Music in September we have Fleetwood Mac Tribute on the 21st after the AB’s Bledisloe. Karaoke on the first Friday and check out Gazza, he’s bringing in a crowd to the Pavilion once a month on a Friday.

Food and Beverages

We have updated our weekly specials, Lambs Fry Friday is Back in September, Taco Thursday and a Wings Special on Wednesdays. You will also see tweaks to the Legends menu by the end of the month.

Gaming Room

Our game updates are on their way! Enjoy the new options. We have plans for a couple more before the end of the year as well. Please continue to be respectful of our staff completing more frequent and deliberate interactions with yourselves to meet the obligations of the new laws. Please do not be offended, we are doing what we have to and what the previous government thinks is best for you.
