September 2022 Travel Update
Thursday 1 Sep, 2022
Hello to all,
On 21 August, 52 of our members made the trip to Moana on the Alpine Express. There were 46 of us, who departed from Addington at 8.15am and a further six were picked up at Rolleston.
Although it was disappointing the snow had been washed away during the week with the rain, we have to realise just how lucky we were to be able to make the journey. The West Coast had been placed in a state of emergency until Wednesday/Thursday
due to the fact that the weather bomb that hit Nelson was expected on the Coast. Luckily, they dodged that bullet. So, to miss the view of the snow is a mere issue, not worth worrying about. The train trip was fantastic, the staff were friendly and so were the crowd making the trip. We arrived at Moana approximately 12 noon and made our way to the Lake Brunner Hotel for lunch.
The lunch they had prepared for us was fabulous and they made special meals for those with dietary requirements. They could not have done more for us.
The lovely young lady was outstanding, as was the lovely young man Tao who drove those requiring a shuttle ride to and from the station. It was raining when we left the hotel so to have a ride was perfect. Everyone seemed to be in great high spirits. We arrived back before 7pm.
Our trip down South for six days commences on 24 September. There are 45 making this trip, and things are coming together well for this trip. This is a full-on trip with five nights and six full days of adventure visiting Wanaka, Te Anau, Milford Sound, Bluff, Invercargill, Oamaru and Geraldine.
We will return home on Thursday 29 September. This should be a fun time for all travelling.
Stay safe everyone.
Our next meeting will be held Monday 19 September at 7pm at the Hornby Club.
Warm regards,
Lyn Wright
