September 2022 Pool Update
Thursday 1 Sep, 2022
Hi guys and gals,
Where has the year gone! Spring is just around the corner now, and if you are like me, you can’t wait for a bit of sun.
Interclub is into the final round and at present we have a couple of teams that look likely to make the top six and go into the play offs. Tournament wise, we had two held early to mid- August. One was the annual Allan Cowan Memorial All Grades Tournament. This tournament is getting bigger and bigger each year. This year there were 175 players, which is fantastic and just shows how much Allan was respected amongst the pool players. We had players come from Wellington, Nelson, Buller and Invercargill. There was also about a dozen junior players playing as well. This was great to see as these are the pool players of the future coming through.
Shayden McKenzie, who is a junior, at just 17 years of age, made it to the final and was beaten by Chris Bowman from Clubs of Marlborough, in what I can only describe as a great final to watch and could have gone either way.
The Papanui Men’s Masters was also held, and John Gower made it into the final, going down to Elima Peneli from Richmond, but it was a huge effort to make the final given the calibre of players.
We have two more tournaments coming up in August, with the Ladies having their turn in the Richmond Masters and the Canterbury Open and Ladies Pairs as well. I will report on those tournaments next month.
