September 2022 Indoor Bowls Update
Thursday 1 Sep, 2022
Indoor Bowls,
Hi members, July was a wet and cold month. It has been great to some members braving the conditions and turning up regularly.
Clubs NZ Men’s Nationals were held in Napier mid-June.
Results – Singles – Mike King – Last 8
Pairs – Mike King and Dave Bullock – Last 8
Triples – Mike King, Dave and Blair Woods – Last 8
Fours – Dave Bullock, Dave & Blair Woods with a pool player Last 8.
Couldn’t seem to get past the Last 8 but good effort overall.
Overall aggregate for the four days was Hornby men placed nineth out of 29 clubs participating.
Clubs NZ Ladies Nationals were hosted by the Richmond Club at the beginning of July.
Results for the week were:
Singles Bev Diamond – Last 32. Joanne Hill – Last 8.
Pairs – Julie Dalley and Bev Diamond – Last 16.
Triples – Julie Dalley, Bev Diamond and Pat Hartland were runner up.
Overall, the Aggregate Results for the four days from the Women’s Nationals the Hornby Club was placed fourth out of 35 clubs entered. Awesome effort overall.
Other results from June and July:
NZ Nationals – Mike King playing in a composite team – Last 8
South Islands in Invercargill Triples – Mike King playing in a last-minute composite team – third equal
Canterbury Championship Pairs – Runner up Mike King and Dave Bullock.
After a disappointing turnout for our Club Triples on 21 July (11 members from 28 ) probably due to the wet and cold , we had three teams complete in a round robin.
First Bevan Matthews, Warren Hobbs and Lillian Franks.
Second Justin Thompson, James Aldridge and Alister Graham.
Hats off to those that braved the atrocious weather conditions that night.
Canterbury Mixed Fours:
First Julie Dalley and Bev Diamond who combined with two Woolston players.
Second Mike King and Dave Bullock who combined with two Papanui players.
Congratulations to our Hornby Ladies of Julie Dalley, Jenny Hamilton, Pat Hartland, Joanne Hill and Kerryn Beckett winning the Ladies challenge at Canterbury Indoor bowls Assoc on 24 July.
Three of our Hornby ladies were in the successful Ladies 10’s team representing Chartered Clubs.
Well done to Jenny Hamilton, Pat Hartland and Bev Diamond.
Hope everyone is keeping warm dry and well.
Until next time happy bowling.
Bev Diamond
