September 2021 Pool Update

Friday 3 Sep, 2021

Hi guys and gals,

I hope everyone is still looking after each other during the lockdown.

In August, the Allan Cowan Memorial All Grade Singles, was held. And this year, we exceeded last year’s numbers with a total of 160 players, which makes this the biggest tournament to be held in Canterbury. This shows that this tournament, and the man behind it, meant a lot, to a lot of pool players, as we had players from Invercargill to the West Coast and even as far away as Nelson, all come down to play.

Tier 1 was taken out in great fashion by Steve Denton over Aven Placid, Tier 2 was John Saundercock over Tristan Matheson and Tier 3 was Brandon Lafaele over John Whatuira.

Papanui held their Men’s Masters and this attracted a good field. This was taken out by Rob Tipa from Cashmere over Hornby’s Paul Blackler. Hornby did themselves proud having four players in the quarter finals with three going on to the semis.

Take care everybody and look after yourselves and those around you

Regards,
Hornby Pool Section
