Outdoor Bowls Update – February 2026

Tuesday 3 Feb, 2026

Well, here we are in 2026 and not sure where the summer has gone, but certainly not here in Christchurch. The green at Bowls Hornby had not been able to absorb all the extra moisture, so unfortunately, we had to cancel our State of Origin on Sunday 25th January.

We are very excited to let everyone know that a team from our section travelled to Nelson to play in the South Island Chartered Clubs Men’s Fours and returned home as the champions. Congratulations to James Aldridge, Greg Hill, Tony Grimwood and our Chairman, Les Jarvis, on their success. This same team are going to Wanganui to try to bring home the New Zealand Chartered Clubs Men’s Fours national trophy in February, so we look forward to hopefully reporting on their success next month. The team are grateful for the grants made by the Hornby Club which assist them with the expenses to travel and play in these events.

Greg Hill also played in the Bowls New Zealand National Singles and won four games to qualify for post section. Well done, Greg.

Next month, on Sunday, 22nd February, we will be playing once again for the Webster Trophy. With the January event being cancelled, the committee has decided to also include the State of Origin, so we hope all members will turn up appropriately displaying their loyalties.

Remember: registration from midday at Bowls Hornby on 22nd February, and bring a plate of food to share.
