October 2025 – Travel Update
Thursday 2 Oct, 2025
Our train trip to Moana Lake Brunner on 31st August on the Alpine Express went well. The train left at 8.15am with check in at 7.45am at the Addington railway station. We picked up four members at Rolleston, we were met at the Lake Brunner station by staff from Moana Hotel and delivered to Kingfisher restaurant. We had four new members on this trip, and they all seemed to enjoy. Kingfisher hotel put on a lovely lunch for us all, everyone had made their choices, and they even put on lovely pumpkin soup and garlic bread as an extra. Our members paid very little for this meal, so it was disappointing to hear them complain about the food.
The train arrived back at Addington at 7pm.
Our next trip away is a visit to Waipara wineries with the coach leaving Hornby Club at 10.00am on the 12th October. Thirty-seven members will be on this trip. We will receive platters on arrival at our first stop. We will visit two very good wineries and then visit Iron Ridge sculpture. The plan is to drop in to Leithfield hotel on way back to Hornby.
On Saturday evening 18th October, a coach will depart Hornby Club at
6.30pm with 21 members who are attending Christchurch symphony Orchestra prom evening, the coach will return to Hornby Club at 9.30pm on completion of the show.
We are also having our Christmas party earlier this year to avoid dates clashing with other Christmas functions. Our date is Friday 21st November, this will be a great band along with an excellent supper supplied by Hornby Club.
Cheers,
Lyn
