October 2023 – Pool Update
Monday 2 Oct, 2023
Hi everyone,
Hope that everyone is starting to enjoy the warmer weather.
Interclub is coming to an end and at present we have the below teams that have a chance of making it into the top six in their grade and representing Hornby possibly on finals day.
Premier Division – The Titans
Div 1 – Hornby Silver
Div 3 – Hornby Diamonds & The Miscues
We have had a busy few months with tournaments, having held the Richmond Ladies Masters, NZ Super League, Champion of Championship Open and Ladies singles and pairs, The Southern Pairs and our in-house John Doig Mixed Pairs.
In the Richmond ladies we had both finalists, in Aileen Barnes and Liz Hullen. These two ladies are best of friends on and off the pool table but there could only be one winner and that was taken out by Aileen. Aileen was runner-up last year but took out the trophy this year.
The NZ Super League was held at Richmond this year and was taken out by the Titans teammate, in Steve Denton. This tournament is filled with so many outstanding players from the North and the South and to be standing at the end holding the trophy is no mean feat. Steve played outstanding over the three days and deserved the title.
The Southern pairs, which is held in Gore, is an annual event and it is becoming more and more popular with the Canterbury players. This year we have several Hornby players pairing up with our club players.
The winner of this was our own Lee Talyor and Cashmere’s John Saundercock. It was a great final and was well deserved as these two guys played well all day.
The John Doig Mixed Pairs had a field of 16 pairings, which was great to see, and was taken out by Gary Oliver and his lovely partner Corien Simpson over a gallant Lee Brady and Liz Hullen. Please keep an eye out on the pool section board to keep you up to date with all tournaments coming up.
Regards,
