October 2022 Pool Update

Monday 3 Oct, 2022

Hi guys and gals,

Spring is finally here, and the buds are starting to bloom. Who doesn’t love a sunny spring day.

There were three tournaments held in August and Hornby managed to win all three of these, which is huge for our pool section.

The Canterbury Pairs, both Open & Ladies, were both held at the Papanui Club and both events were taken out by players playing under the Hornby umbrella.

The open was taken out in style by Chris Bowman and Malcolm Pollock winning over Cory Hall and Jesse Eastmond from Richmond.

The ladies’ pairs ended up being a Hornby vs Hornby final with Sherralee Boyce & JoJo Coleman taking out the trophy over Aileen Barnes & Liz Hullen.

The Richmond Ladies Masters was also held, and Hornby ended up with a huge contingency of players. Out of a field 27, we had 14 ladies playing and out of the 14, nine made the main event.

The final was between two Hornby ladies, in Corien Simpson and Aileen Barnes, with Corien coming out victorious.

We also had the Champion of Champions, both singles and pairs played as well. This is where each club holds an in-house tournament and the winners of these then represent their respective clubs in this event.

In the singles we had John Gower (open) and Clare Shanaher (Ladies) representing our club. Clare came out victorious in the ladies and John ended up finishing a solid fifth.

In the pairs we had Alan Robertson and Lee Taylor (open) and Clare Shanaher and Sherralee Boyce (Ladies) representing the club. Alan and Lee took out their respective division as well
as taking out the overall COC title. Clare and Sherralee were close finishing a close second

Last, but not least, we had our John Doig in house Mixed Pairs tournament. We had 14 pairings turn up, which was great as there were a few new faces, which is always great to see. This was taken out by John Renwick and Sherralee Boyce over Barry Henderson and Frankie Chapman
