October 2022 Fishing Update
Monday 3 Oct, 2022
We are all getting excited with the first weekend in November just around the corner, this is when most of the Fishing Section head off down to Twizel on 4 and 5 November to compete for the Twizel Trophy and a great weekend at the Twizel Combined Club.
AR and CJ were fishing at CJ’s favourite spot on the Ohau C canal. We were battling to cast into a strong Northwester. We had decided to go to the other side for some wind assisted casting, just as a local arrived where we intended to go. B local.
The local cast out a bait then preceded to fish out of his car window, he had a fish in about five minutes. That’s when he truly became a B local. But like a good local, he’d caught his dinner and was off home.
We were over their quick smart, and it wasn’t too long before AR’s rod looked like it was attached to the bottom of the canal. “Run, get the big net” yells AR but CJ could see there was no need to rush, this was going to take a while.
AR skilfully coaxed the fish to the bank with just the right amount of tension. We definitely needed the big net for the 25lb hen salmon. (Photo to prove it).
Lots of whooping, high fiving and photos. AR reckoned that he might as well give up fishing as he wouldn’t get another as big as that.
