November 2024 – Managers Report
Friday 1 Nov, 2024
Hi All.
October is gone but what a month it was. We had a great start to the month with a fantastic allsports night. Neil Diamond was a wonderful concert enjoyed by many. We had a great day at the Club as an Everest Base Camp and Canterbury making the semi-final of the NPC. We finished on a high with a delicious whitebait lunch.
Pushing through to November, there is a lot of sport to be played. The big screen will be busy and getting the schedule right will be tough, so on occasions we will change what is scheduled to meet the demand of the people in the Bar at the time. We will also be using Westview as a second viewing area for sport when clashes happen.
Here’s what’s on at the Club…
- Black Caps will be taking on India on Friday 1 November at 5pm. A historic moment in Kiwi cricket.
- Melbourne Cup. Tuesday 5 November – The Club has three pods and a manned TAB open from 10am to 6pm.
- All Blacks Norther Tour. 3, 9, 17 and 24 November – The Hornby Club will be showing a replay of the England game and live coverage of the Ireland, France and Italy games on the big screen. In that case, we will have the first sky replay on in the morning. Grab a Pavilion breakfast & coffee combo and enjoy the game.
- Cup Day at Hornby Club. Tuesday 12 November – Buffet breakfast tickets are now on sale. We will also have prizes throughout the day, the TAB will be manned, and it will be a great atmosphere.
- Old Timers Afternoon Tea. Sunday 17 November – Our annual event is back from 2-4pm. Tickets are $15 from reception. You must be a senior member to attend.
- Summer Bingo. First Tuesday of every month – Bingo will be 10 rounds and one super house round, prices will be $5 a card and $6 for the super house round. A $30 bundle will be available for a Book (6 cards) and one Super house.
- Live music at the Club throughout November.
- Replays of the Formula 1 will be played at the Hornby Club on Monday 6 November. How will Liam Lawson perform?
- NFL season has kicked off in the US and we will be showing replays around NZ sport from midday as well.
A reminder that we are in the countdown to Christmas. Now is the time to book your Christmas function or reserve a table at our annual Christmas Buffet. The car park will start to fill up with Christmas functions. Please be patient and understand that this is a very busy time for the Club.
The Pavilion Café continues to do well. Thank you for your ongoing support of the café. It helps that the coffee is so delicious! The Legends menu will have a few more tweaks to ensure we have all the favourites for the summer season. The lamb salad is back and replaces the roast veg salad.
In December we have a fantastic Twelve Days of Christmas promotion coming. It will be held on our social media accounts and live in the Club. More details to come.
Our Early Bird Draw is coming. To ensure you are in the draw you will need to renew or join between 1 December and 18 December. Details on the 2024 prize pack in this newsletter.
Our Members Draws of Chase the Ace on Thursdays and Crack the Cube on Friday continue to grow, so come on in for your chance at a good win. The Wednesday Draws are still a popular option for our members.
Come in and see our new TAB tablets, there are three tables in the TAB area. As of November, we are no longer printing the race Meetings. Odds are available on our new tablets.
At the most recent board meeting it was decided that the van service will be pick up only until 6.00pm from 1 December 2024. This is in response to consistent feedback from our members. Full service resumes from 6.00pm.
Gaming room
We have had a great uptake of applications for the Gaming Grants this year. We will be sorting through them over the month and getting back to applicants before the end of November.
In the gaming room, please continue to be respectful of our staff completing more frequent and deliberate interactions with yourselves to meet the obligations of the new laws. Please do not be offended, we are doing what we have to and what the previous government thinks is best for you.
Remember to bet responsibly.
Looking forward to a busy month,
Tim Mathews
