May 2025 – Managers Report

Thursday 1 May, 2025

Hi All,

I trust you all enjoyed the long weekends we have just had. We had a great turn out for the ABBA show by DnD Showband, Easter and ANZAC weekends were busier than previous years and the raffle table has been running hot.

We have another busy month ahead:
Open Day: 18 May 10am – 2pm – Prizes to be won, activities, extra raffles, bouncy castles and more
Warriors are currently in the top 4!!! – Not yet time for the Pinot Wha’s to come out but the proper, loyal Hornby league supporters have another team going as well as the Panthers to support
Live on the big screen – Sat 3, 17 May, and Sunday 25 May. 10 May – Warriors will be on the TAB big screen and in the Pavilion Café on projector
Crusaders – 10, 16 & 30 May
Racing section Sunday Session – 26 May – Shout out this month with the section highlight. Their Sunday session event rolls into the Sunday Warriors Game on the big screen, so come on down and enjoy the atmosphere
Music – This month’s music is all in the Pavilion Café with a new band playing on the 18th

We will be putting out our notice of election later this month. The position of Returning Officer is available and we are looking for candidates. Please send me an e-mail or drop a letter to the Office should you wish to take on this position.

Election and AGM dates:
Notice of Election: 1 May
Remits Close: 16 May
Nominations Open: 23 May
Nominations Close: 07 June

Members Corner:
Bingo continues to go strong each month; it will wrap up on the 6th of May with prizes to be won! You won’t have long to wait until Winter Bingo returns weekly mid-June for 10 weeks. Quiz night continues weekly and has a strong and growing following.

Members draws are going well with a couple of recent winners for Chase the Ace, which is now drawn after the members Happy Hour finishes, just after 6.30pm.

Some great section activity over the last month, with a number of South Island and National tournaments being held. Travel section had a fantastic North Island trip and a nice getaway as well. Thank you to all participating and making these activities happen for yourselves and our members.

Food & Beverage:
We have made a couple of small updates to the Legends menu. It’s hard to change something that sells so well. The Pavilion cabinet food will have a couple of tweaks in the coming month and we have some new winter specials for you to try.

In the coming months we will be reviewing the wine list as well, so keep an eye out for a few changes.

Gaming Room:
Thank you to those who got a grant last year and have supplied us with the validation paperwork. If you have not already, please do share this with me in the next month.

In the gaming room, we are looking at a couple of updates, so keep an eye out. Please continue to be respectful of our staff completing more frequent and deliberate interactions with yourselves to meet the obligations of the new laws.

Please do not be offended, we are doing what we have to and what the previous government thinks is best for you. Remember to bet responsibly.

Looking forward to a busy month,

Tim Mathews
