May 2023 Indoor Bowls Update

Hello members, I hope everyone is keeping warm and dry.
April has been a very busy and full-on month.
Our membership has been increasing and we now have 36 members. Welcome all.
The NZ/Canterbury Mixed Pairs, played at the Canterbury Indoor Bowls Association, was won by Shane Bell and Bev Diamond. They will now go on to play in the Zone finals in Ashburton. Good luck team. Third equal was Pat Hartland playing with E Allen from Richmond.
Eight players from Hornby travelled down to Timaru over Easter to play in the South Island Chartered tournament. This event was played over four days and the results are as follows:
Singles – Dave Bullock – third equal
Pairs – Julie Dalley and Bev Diamond – Runner-up Mike King and Dave Bullock – third equal
Fours – Mike King, Dave Bullock, Julie Dalley and Bev Diamond – third equal.
The Canterbury Chartered Club singles was held at Hornby on Sunday 16 April. In this event, Hornby had 14 players enter, a great turnout from our section. Three of our players reached the semi-final, they were Justin Thompson, Chris Matthews and Shane Bell. Shane defeated Chris in a very close and tight final. Awesome achievement Hornby and congratulations Shane.
