Manager’s Report: March 2023

Thursday 2 Mar, 2023

Hello Members,

What a month we just had. Our thoughts are with
those effected by the cyclone and I hope you and your families are safe.

In the Club we have seen:

  • Pool Section running a Super League on Monday nights;
  • The upstairs rest rooms completed;
  • New larger TV’s in Legends Bar;
  • A TV wall for the TAB area, and
  • Some picture rails run in the new meeting room for pictures and Dart Boards.

We have a nice, busy March ahead of us in the Events Centre from Wednesday to Saturday for the first three weeks, kicking off with South Island Darts, then two conferences for the following two weeks. It will be great to host these events and to be back at full swing.

The Events Centre/All Sports area will be back to full operation for sections. This means the traditional weekly program at the Club will return to its usual busy pace. Table Tennis, Indoor Bowls and Darts, thank you for your patience while the work was being competed to increase the toilet capacity.

The big news for this month is the opportunity to WIN a Watt Wheels E-BIKE…!!

  • Everyone who has renewed their membership for the 2024 financial year (i.e., you have a silver card) before 31 March is in the draw. You’ll need to be at the Club at 6pm on 5 April for the draw to be eligible.
  • Second prize is a Webber Baby Q BBQ and there are five $50 club vouchers to be won as well.
  • 99 Bikes Hornby are also offering an exclusive $500 discount on Watt Wheel e-bikes for Hornby Club Members for the month of March. There are two models of bikes that this deal is valid for. Just show your silver members card to receive it.
  • A demonstration of the bikes will be presented at 3pm on 15 March in Pavilion Café, with test rides available between 3pm and 6pm on that day.

A reminder that in February the Club Office hours and the Member Van / Shuttle service had a couple of changes to their hours of operation.

Office hours

Monday & Tuesday                9am to 5pm
Wednesday to Sunday           9am to 8pm

Sections, please remember, if you are after information or printing before your meetings, please give the team three working days, as per the Rules.

The Members Van / Shuttle

These schedule changes are to keep the service repeatable, reliable and to have set expectations for all members. New finish times are now set for Sunday through to Thursday.

For drop offs, the van will not leave the Club with less than two people before 7pm (unless it is called away for a pick-up). After 7pm, the van will wait 15 minutes each time it returns to the Club before leaving. This will be called over the speaker upon arrival and again before departure.

Sunday to Wednesday           9pm finish
Thursday                                  10pm finish
Friday & Saturday                  Bar Close finish

Staff

As you’ll know from being at the Club in the last week of February, Hornby Club, like much of NZ, is still being effected by Covid. We are doing our best to manage this with the least effect on the Club’s Day to day operation, but please do bear with us if / when we have a number of people knocked out, effecting service. This is very frustrating for all involved.

Gaming room

You will see that we have had a couple of game swaps in February. There will be a few more before the end of March. Hope those who frequent the room will like the updates.

Looking forward to seeing you all around the Club this month. Thanks again,

Tim Mathews
