Manager’s Report – March 2022

Tuesday 1 Mar, 2022

Hello all,

Thank you for continuing to frequent your Club during the trying times of February and the 100-person capacity limit. It has been great to see our lunches still busy, weekend evenings running full and those lucky members walking away with the $50 vouchers on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 6pm.

It has been a challenging month, but we are, fingers crossed, one month away from being out the other side and will hopefully have these restrictions gone.

A thank you to our Sections. Your patience continues to be greatly appreciated. Your work behind the scenes organizing tournaments and events for when this virus dissipates does not go unnoticed. We welcome new Chairs, Treasurers and Committee members and thank those of you who have gone before.

In the Club this month we have:

  • Raffles – Every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 4.30pm. However, from 7 March onwards we will have raffles every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4.30pm and on Saturdays 11am to 1pm.
  • $20 dinner combos – Continuing for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • 20% discount in Chalmers for those dining before 5.30pm in our First In & Save option.
  • Our Membership renewal draw of 5 x $100 on Friday 11 March at 6pm.Building Activity
  • From Thursday 3 to Friday 11 March, the toilets beside the Gaming room will be closed. We will be putting in Cavity Sliding doors for these as, although they meet “code” currently, they are not as useable as we require for our members.
  • The Pavilion will get a larger coffee machine to keep up with the busy times (no cost to the Club). The current machine will go to Chalmers Restaurant.
  • Later in the month the water damage from the fire system leak in the main bar above Westview room will be getting repaired.
  • The hallway TV’s from Chalmers are being repurposed as a Bar TV and a Function TV.
  • Our Trophy Cabinets will be finished in the foyer (this is parts and timing dependent).
  • Some new Section Cupboard doors will go in place in the rooms off our Sports Hall.
  • Additionally, you will see some surveying at the end of the month for finishing off the outside of our Main Entrance and some changes in our Car Park.

Food & Beverage

As of 1 April 2022, we will be passing on the increase in prices of our food and beverages, this is due to the following reasons:

  • We have had multiple beverage price increases in the last six months, and these are signaled to continue with increased logistics costs
  • Our food suppliers have passed on or signaled a 5-7% increase in their prices
  • Living wage increased on 1 September 2021
  • Minimum wage increases on 1 April 2022
  • We have not had any price increases to keep up with inflation in over eight months
  • We need to do this to maintain the continued sustainability of our Club, especially given the additional pressures Covid and its associated restrictions have had on our Club. Brian, our Treasurer, will announce these increases on Friday 1 April as is traditional

Our Team

  • Our staff have been doing a fantastic job during this time, divided into two teams and adjusting their normal routines to do so. I would like to thank them for their continued flexibility and great efforts.
  • Please remember we will need to check yours and your guests passes on a regular basis, this is a legal requirement, not something we can omit, so please be understanding.
  • Recently we have welcomed Rachelle to our Office team, Kyle our new barista, and we will be welcoming Sandra, our new Duty Manager on the first of March.
  • In the middle of the month, we will be saying farewell to Cody. Cody’s efforts have been greatly appreciated, managing our Front of House team, creating, and implementing systems and processes behind the scenes, as well as being key in making sure we had everything we needed in place and on time to operate our new bar and restaurant in the shift to our new building. All while having a beautiful new baby, building a house, and getting married. Cody, we wish you the best for your future.

Covid

  • Please click here to view the Government’s current “Close Contact” flow chart. This is for your convenience to assist you in checking if you are, or have been a contact, and what you should do.

Closure risk

Again, we do acknowledge there is a risk of not being able to staff the Club if members and / or the staff are exposed to COVID and are required to isolate. As you have seen over the last month and in our last newsletter, we have taken precautions to protect this from happening, however there is a possibility closure for an unknown period of time is possible.

Should this happen, we will be messaging our members through their e-mails AND through The Star, as well as through word of mouth. Should we have to close, I apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Hornby Club’s Plan if Covid comes, as there is a risk of closure:

  1. We have two teams so we can stay open as long as possible.
  2. One team can staff Legends and Pavilion for a week while the other team may be out.
  3. Chalmers may have to close for a weekend.
  4. A deep clean will be done by our cleaning company if we become a place of interest.

We will be doing what we need to do, to keep our members and staff safe.

Thank you again for continuing to support your Club during these times, and we look forward to seeing you in to renew your membership and catch up with friends soon.

Kind regards,

Tim Mathews
