Manager’s Report: June 2023

Hello Members,

May was capped off with a great concert upstairs by the team at Madsen Productions and a couple of fantastic games in Super Rugby for the Crusaders. The Warriors are in the top 8 and both the V8’s and Formula 1 have had some great racing.

In the Club, it is really encouraging to see the Pool Section competing so well and having such a big night on Tuesdays. You’ll note that the Pool Area is closed for competition and spectators on Tuesdays from 6pm. This weekend our Golf Section is hosting the Mixed Pairs at McLeans Island, great work on your organization and all the best to those competing.

As you’ll know, it’s Election time again, with nominations closing the Saturday, so please get your forms in before then if you are interested in a seat on the Board and helping the Club grow and evolve.

Food and Beverages

It is also menu update time, so please keep an eye out for the changes to our menus in Legends Bar and Chalmers Restaurant in the middle of the month. I see the continued updates to the cabinet in Pavilion are also being well received.

On a more frustrating note, for us all, I do have to advise you again that when the Government excise tax of 6.65% comes in on 1 July the Club will have to pass on the increase. I also note that as we only do one price increase a year on alcohol, we will need to factor in the Government 9.9% living wage increase coming on 1 September 2023. Not news I want to share, but it is better that everyone is informed in advance.

It is great to see the raffle table going so well, thank you all for coming in and winning yourself a raffle. Going forward, we are unable to provide plastic bags for your raffle wins, so please remember to bring your own bag if you want to use one.

13 June     Weekly Winter Bingo starts at 10am for 10 weeks

Quiz Night
14 June Pavilion Café 6.00pm – Believe it or Not weekly quiz – Have you got your team together? A 12-week season, with the last 10 weeks having a $1000 prize for the top team overall, and a $400 prize for the second to last team, as well as weekly prizes.

The Members Van / Shuttle

A van service area update is included in this newsletter.
From 1 July we will do two drop-offs a night to Rolleston and Lincoln.
From 1 July we are reducing the area we service in Riccarton. The reasons for this are:

• After reviewing the GPS the area is not serviced very much (i.e. not many members live in that area that use the Van)
• When the area is being asked for a pick-up or drop-off by the few people it does service, it is at rush hour and the van is being taken out of action for over one hour at a time for the remaining members.
• Van price increase for individual rides form 1 July 2023.
• Van 10 ticket concession price now $40 from reception.
• Repeating last month, for clarity, on days that the Van is on until “Bar Close”, this means that the service is available until 30 minutes after ‘last drinks’ are called.

Van finish times

• Sunday to Wednesday – 9pm finish
• Thursday – 10pm finish
• Friday and Saturday – Bar Close finish

Regular activities in the Club this month we have:

New Members

• The first Tuesday of each month at 6.00pm between February and October, you can meet a couple of our board members who will show you around our great new facility and advise you of all that our Club and sections has to offer.

Raffles

• Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 4.00pm • Saturday 11.00am to 1.00pm

• Remember your bags – No more plastic bags are available.

Wednesdays & Thursdays

• Members draw 2 x $100 vouchers on your card – drawn after 6pm, after the raffles.

Crack the Cube

• On EVERY Friday– sign up by 6.15pm to be drawn between 6.30pm and 6.45pm – You could win over $500

$20 Meal Deals (Lunch and Dinner)
• Wednesday Wings and 12 oz Beer (Wine (house) or soft drink) • Thursday Burger and 12 oz Beer (Wine (house) or soft drink) • Friday Steak, shoestring fries and garlic butter

Gaming Room

The swaps for machines #1 and #10 have been ordered, so if you like them play them while they are here. The swaps are for a Multi Game that includes Foxy Fortune and Money Beans, and a newer Power Guardian game. Remember to bet responsibly.

Grant Requests

We will start taking Grant requests in July, so if you know of any sports clubs or charitable organizations that may be interested, please let them know July is when our Grant applications open.
