Manager’s Report for September 2022

Thursday 1 Sep, 2022

Hello again,

We are sailing though the year and I think everyone is looking forward to Spring, longer days and a bit of warmth. We are continuing to have busy weeks with you all frequenting the Club for Section activity, dining, drinking and meetings.

The main change you will see in the Club this month is the Legends Food Ordering Till and the Bottle Store specials.

We had a fantastic and memorable Ranfurly Shield Rugby Lunch, organised by Ray and the ex CRFU team on Friday 26 August. There were some great stories from a classic, winning era of Canterbury Rugby. The event made the news!

Legends Food Ordering

  • Please order your Lunch and Dinner from the Botle Store and Food Till by the Big Screen
  • We have returned to what we did in the Old Main Bar, as we know it works
  • We now have a separate food ordering till to drinks ordering
  • The aim of this is to both increase the food ordering accuracy and to speed up the service of drinksBottle Store
  • We will be running monthly Bottle Store specials
  • These will be advertised on the back of the newsletter and on the pillar at the Bottle Store / food till.Trading
  • Our functions continue to be busy, and the meeting spaces are booking out well in advance.
  • Chalmers Restaurant is trading well and picking up. We will have a menu update in Chalmers this month and we have had a recent addition ofsome more indoor plants in the restaurant as well as around the Club.
  •  Legends Bar continues with the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday specials. Your patronage is still strong and the bar on sporting event nights and days trades well.

Pavilion Café is turning over well, continuing with solid lunches and coffee trade.

Staff

We were relatively lucky last month COVID wise, with only a few of the team going down in the kitchen, placing some pressure on the team for a week. We continue to do our best to cover these shortages, but on occasions are unable to.

There are still a few new faces coming onto the staff to meet the needs of the Club. We have lots of training planned to get our new members up to speed. Please introduce yourself if you see them.

It is with sadness that we have said farewell to our popular F&B Manager, Simon in the last week. He bought a fantastic energy and attitude to the floor. We wish him and his family all the best.

In the Club this month we have:

  • Work on the carpark is scheduled for the next six weeks. The plan is to finish the area we have started in the next three weeks.
  • As with last month, they have been delayed slightly due to the drawings not matching what has been dug up. See the Build update at the back of this newsletter for the pictures and timing.

Remaining contract work update:

  •  The work on the glass divide between Legends Bar and Pavilion Café has started and we will have the glass above the seats in place by the end of the first week of September. The remainder will hopefully be completed in September.
  •   The additional meeting space in the temporary office will haveits entrance cut in the first week of September.
  • The work on upstairs to increase toilet capacity and add an accessible toilet will start as soon as the new doors needed arrive on site (There is up to a 12 week wait on these if you ordered now).

Section and Club members competing in upcoming competitions, I wish you all the best, from Kayden at an individual level to our Cards, Darts, Table Tennis, Bowls, Pool, Crib, Golf and Euchre sections.

Thank you again for keeping your Club a busy, fun, and engaging place to be. I look forward to seeing you about soon.

Kind regards,
Tim Mathews
