Manager’s Report for May 2022

Wednesday 4 May, 2022

Hello all,

What a great change to the Club it has been with all the
section activity and members able to see and use all the facilities of our great new building. Thank you all for coming back in, it has been great to see the uplift in energy around the Club.

Sections, we are so very grateful for your patience and are really looking forward to your weekly activity and upcoming tournaments.

Recently you will have noticed we have had to close areas of the Club or reduce operating hours. This has been due to COVID isolation and illness amongst our staff. This is still a risk through winter, but we will do our best to limit the effect on the Club’s day-to-day operation. I must thank the team for their flexibility and quick response to keep us open and going as seamlessly as possible.

In the Club this month we have:

We will have updated food offerings in Pavilion, Legends and Chalmers in the middle of the month, so keep any eye out. Of course, we will be keeping your favourites on there.
Cash is now able to be taken out on EFTPOS at the bar terminals (same as before, max $100 per person per day).

Our Team:

We welcome Joanne to our team as a senior member and Duty Manager, coming from a senior position in another local bar, some of you may recognize her. Please say hello and make her feel at home.

Simon continues to do a great job managing the Front of House team and, alongside Greer, Mark, and Ray, have been, and continue to be key to the smooth operation of the Club during these difficult times. Thank you all.

Build:

Covid is slowing things down here for the finishing of the Civil works and insurance work. We will have an update for you next month. Nice to see the trophy cabinets almost finished.’

Covid:

Thank you all for bearing with us through the level and guideline changes. The decision was made to keep masks in place at Hornby Club for everyone as it is the Board and Management’s duty of care to members to keep you safe. Given the peak in Canterbury came after the Orange Light level was introduced, we stand by the decision.

Going forward, from 1 May 2022, Masks are encouraged by the Board and Government, but not compulsory. Staff will continue to wear masks as it is required by law.

Looking forward to seeing you here for Elections and events over the next couple of months.

Kind regards,
Tim Mathews
