Manager’s Report – April

Thursday 28 Mar, 2024

Hi Members,

And just like that, Easter has been and gone and we are into a new financial year…. The Club is steady again, concerts are back monthly, if not more, and your sections are picking up in weekly activity again. It was great to see such a well-run tournament by Cards, I will reiterate Terry’s thanks on behalf of our team.

The raffle table has had some busy weeks with the Oysters flying off the shelf. Best to come down on a Thursday to see if you can get some yourself, being the quietest raffle night in the Club. Chase the Ace is yet to go and tapping on the door of $2000, Crack the Cube went once last month and we are already one lockdown, and our Members Draw on Wednesday is ticking over well.

The Membership Renewal draw went fantastically, with a regular winning the first prize, and a mix of new and long serving members winning the other prizes. Thanks for coming down and participating, it was a fun and busy evening. On membership, your number will be held until the end of April, so please get in and
renew your membership if you haven’t already.

Coming up we have two big gigs upstairs, with the DnD showband on 6 April with Abba and the 80s, and Paul Madsens ‘Legends of Country’ on Friday 19. Grab your tickets from reception. ANZAC day is on 25 April. Terry will be at the RSA Dawn service and will be placing a wreath on behalf of Hornby Club.

Our usual Sunday music continues, as well as:

Friday night music in Pavilion from 8pm with Tracy Rockhouse on 12 April.
Jo’s Karaoke is on the first Friday 5 April, and;
Quiz night continues monthly, 3 April, with new hosts before kicking into weekly from May until Labour Day.

Sport we are looking forward to showing on the big screen:

Super Rugby
NRL – Warriors – What a great home game!!
SuperCars – 19 – 21 April in Taupo – Who is going and who’s watching it here?
Formula 1 – Is there a challenge coming from Ferrari?

See the events calendar for all music events, and weekly TV Schedule in the Bar.

Food and Beverages
Have you tried the bangers and mash Sunday special? It is great to see the Club nice and busy with our $12 lunch offering on Mondays and Tuesdays going well and we have had great feedback on the Guiness Pie from St Patrick’s day. Try the Chef’s other pies in the cabinet in the Pavilion Cafe. Chalmers is inviting families to try out the restaurant on Wednesdays and Thursday with our Kids eat free offer. Adults must buy a main meal to be eligible (conditions apply).

Gaming room
Thanks again for your cooperations with our team around the new regulations now in place that the Club staff must enforce. The feedback we are getting from other Club members on what we do is very positive. The more frequent and deliberate interactions with the team are essential for us meeting the obligations of the new laws. Please do not be offended, we are doing what we have to and what the previous government thinks is best for you. Remember to bet responsibly.

Lastly, with the easter weekend at the start of the month (end of March) there are a couple of legal trading restriction on the Bottle store and TAB. Please work with us through these.

Enjoy your surcharge free weekend and the same on ANZAC day.

See you in the Club,
Tim Mathews
