June 2024 – Indoor Bowls

Hi All,

Winter is certainly on its way; I hope everyone is keeping warm and dry. Once again, May has been a busy and successful month.

The Chartered Club singles, hosted at Hornby, were won by Mike King earning him his fifteenth Chartered Club Title. Congratulations Mike!

The runner-up was Dave Bullock and third equal was Justin Thompson.

The Chartered Club Mixed Pairs were recently played down at Ashburton. Third equal went to Dave Bullock and Kerrin Beckett, alongsie Chris and Donna Matthews. Well done Hornby.

Our Club Championship Fours was won by Chris Matthews, Warren Mackie, Donna Matthews, and David Jamieson. They will now go to the Champion of Champions later on in the season. Good Luck.

The runner-up was Dave Bullock, Tony Anderson (replaced by James Aldridge on the second night), Kerrin Beckett and Leah Brown.

The Henselite Singles played recently at the CIBA saw Chris Matthews earn second place.

In the Club Singles, first went to Dave Bullock and second Justin Thompson.

Three of our men were selected to play in the Men’s 10’s for Chartered Clubs – Dave Bullock, Mike King, and Darryl Gallagher. Chartered Clubs were runner-up. Great effort.

The Canterbury Singles Championship was played on Sunday 19th May. The winner was Chris Matthews, third equal was Justin Thompson. Another great

result Chris, you’re having a fantastic season!

Overall, Hornby players are achieving great results.

Until next month, good bowling. I know we have a few players heading down to the South Islands at Ashburton over King’s Birthday weekend. Good luck, we are looking forward to the results.

Also, next month are the Men’s nationals at Pukekohe. Wishing well to Chris, Dave, Mike and Darryl, who are heading north for that. Hopefully, some great results to continue from last year.

The NZ Nationals are also coming up in mid-June in Whangarei in which we have three players heading north. They are Bev Diamond, Tim McNae and Chloe Neil. Good luck up at Whangarei and enjoy.
