June 2023 Pool Update

Friday 2 Jun, 2023

Hi everyone,

Last month there were three tournaments run, two Canterbury ones and we also had an in-house tournament.

Canterbury 8 Ball held its annual B Grade Singles at Woolston, and we had a big contingency of players representing Hornby.

In the B Grade, we had 20 players with seven qualifying and going through to the championship event and out of that seven, Linus Meyer made it to the quarter finals which was a great effort in such a big field.

The Canterbury Open and Ladies Singles were also held on the same weekend in May.

In the open we had 26 players with 18 qualifying. Out of these 26, we had Luke Arnold make the quarter final, going out to the eventual winner in Dan Bowen.

In the ladies, Hornby had the most players in 13 and out of those 13 we had five qualify. Corien Simpson went through section play not dropping a frame but eventually went out the next day to the eventual runner up, in Aileen Barnes. Sherralee Boyce and Letitia Jackson made the quarter finals.

Aileen lost to Cashmere’s top woman player in JoJo Coleman.

Our only in-house tournament was the June Smith Ladies Singles. We had a field of 15 ladies, and this was taken out by Sherralee Boyce over Atiria Te Huna.

The South Islands are being held in Christchurch next month at Richmond, so will report on how we do next month.

Please keep an eye out on the pool section board to keep you up to date with all tournaments coming up.

Regards,
Hornby Pool Section
