June 2023 Euchre & Cards Update

Hi to all members,

We are now into June, colder days and darker nights, and will be passing the “Shortest Day” of the year, later in the month.

As usual, I like to recap on activities our Euchre/Cards Section had during May.

On Thursday 4 May, we held a normal Progressive night with 37 players.

Then on Thursday 11 May, we had our special “Compulsory Pick Up Night”. We had 10 tables, with a couple of new players coming to visit us as well. On this night, most players like this different concept of the Euchre Rules or way of play, but some don’t, but we like to bring in variety of different options, for these two nights we organise a year. The winner on the night was Paul Bulman on 20 pts, and in second was Terry McCallum on 19pts.

But the special of the night was Gwen Kirk getting and playing the “Perfect Hand” and receiving the progressive cash bonus that accumulates each week.

Our next normal progressive night on Thursday 18 May, we had 43 players. It was great to see good numbers coming along. We welcome new members who wish to come along and join us.

Saturday ChCh Clubs Interclub Games. As at the first weekend of June we have played five games (at end Round 1). We have had mixed results so far, still another two rounds, 10 games. Hopefully, we can get some better results, or at least “get the cards, as we say”.

On Thursday 25, we had our end of month, Fun Pairs Night, amongst all other Pairs. Card Members love playing these nights, with their chosen partner. We had a great turnout with 14 tables and 56 players. The room was full upstairs. There was so much laugh and chatter all night amongst all. After six games we had our usual break, with Tea or Coffee and biscuits and then back to the last six games.

Thanks Eric, for being our regular bar person over the last couple of months, he helps us setting up tables prior with the green card boards on, table numbers etc, and oversees providing our tea and coffees at half time break. We appreciate his help on our card nights.

So, to the winners on the night. First place, on 19 pts, Paul and Lesley Bulman, and close on second, Dave and Lyn Mckay. Well done. Close scores followed from there….

We are starting into our first set of Aggregate Games. This is run over six weeks; accumulating scores recorded each week on progressive euchre nights. It runs from Thursday 8 June through to Thursday 13 July. At the end of six weeks, the best top five scores get added up to everyone’s individual score. If you miss a night, it can be a disadvantage to your total aggregate score. There are prizes paid out to the top three scorers of points.

As I said last month, all our Euchre/Card information regarding Saturday Cards /weekly teams and Euchre nights are on the Card Section Notice Board, during the week, under the stairs on the right, going into the Legends Bar. Please look on “THE BOARD”
