June 2022 Pool Update

Thursday 2 Jun, 2022

Hi guys and gals,

I hope everyone’s year is going ok so far and you all have had a lovely Easter and Anzac Day. May has been a busy month as we try to play some of our in-house tournaments before Hornby hosts the South Island Open & Ladies national events next month.
First off we had our Hubbard Drawn Pairs, and this was taken out in style by a formidable pairing in John Renwick and Barry Henderson. They ended up winning 4 – 0 over Corien Simpson and Jimmy Bird. The second one was the Jack Elcock Open Pairs. This was taken out for the second year running by best mates, Alan Robertson and Lee Taylor over Paul Morris and Lee Brady. It went down to the last frame with Al and Lee coming out on top 4-3.

Canterbury 8 Ball held two tournaments. The 2022 Early Bird Singles as well as the Molly Memorial Drawn Pairs. In the Main flight event of the B Grade, Corien Simpson took this out the final winning 3 – 2 over Barry Jones from the Kaiapoi Club. The Molly Memorial was taken out by our own Pool Section President, Pauline Laugesen and her partner Steve Collier winning 4 – 3 over Srinath Herath and Cameron Spriggs. Inter-club has started for all division 1 teams, with the Premiers, division 2 & 3 kicking their season off on the 26 / 27 April. Hornby is hosting the South Island Ladies & Open in June 22, and this is fast approaching. The pool section is excited to be able to hold this tournament so there will be a lot more info in months to come regarding this event. If you are wanting to play, then you need to get your entry in by writing your name on the entry form which is on the pool section notice board. As I mentioned above, Hornby is hosting a National tournament in June with the South Island Ladies & Open singles & pairs. This is a huge event with some outstanding players playing, so if you are around pop upstairs at some stage and come and have a look.

Until then stay warm and look after yourself and those around you!

Regards,
Hornby Pool Section
