June 2022 Euchre / Cards Update

Hi to all Members.

Into June we are now and it’s great to see our members coming along on these dark and cold nights to our weekly Thursday night cards.
Firstly, to recap from last month’s magazine. We had our Annual AGM on the last Thursday in April. We have no changes to our Section Committee, sadly no other card members were willing to put their hands up to help run and set up for our weekly section Euchre Nights.
Chairperson – Cheryl Gianelly, Vice Chair- Helen James, Secretary- Val Hore, Treasurer -Bernie McKenzie, has taken over this position from our retiring previous Anne Hepburn. The Committee is the same as last year, Lorraine Cole, Anne Hepburn, Gwen Kirk, Bev Bulmer, Bev Smith.
The special mention of the night was the presentation of Life Membership to Anne Hepburn who this year has stood down as Treasurer after being in this position since March 2002, an amazing number of years. She has still remained as a committee member. Thank You Anne for your contribution to our Cards section, with so many hours of your time given to our Section over all these years.

Our Inter-club Games have started and will finish on 13 August. We are playing every Saturday now for our Saturday Inter-club/Crib Tournament amongst our other local five clubs playing at home or either travel away to their club by bus. We have
JUNE 2022 EDITION 15 just finished our first round of play. There are two rounds to go and we have had mixed results, but a long way to go yet.
It was great to welcome back on 19 May our normal euchre night. We had 46 players, a great turnout, including three new players to our section.

We had our Pairs night on the last Thursday of May. Everyone loves this night as they can play with the same partner all night. There is always lots of humour and we always get a good turnout of members. If they don’t have regular partner, we just match up on the night.
The joint winners of the night on 17 pts were Terry McCallum and Possum (Graham Jackson) and Alan Shears and Bill Turei (new member for us). Well done guys (photos attached from the night.) On 16 June we will be starting our first Aggregate night which will run over six nights, It will be normal cards with the five best scores being collated over the time, and advised each week on our white board. The last aggregate night is on 21 July. There is no Pairs night on 30 June due to aggregate night, but next one will be 28 July.

Finishing off, we welcome any new members
that would like to come and join our euchre
section. Every Thursday night, we start at 7pm and finish by 9.30pm. We play 12 games of progressive euchre ( i.e. no partner required ) and it costs $3.00 to play with raffles available at the start of night.
