July 2022 Pool Update

Hi guys and gals,
We are almost halfway through the year and the weather is changing rapidly, so make sure you all take care of yourself. We have held another two in-house tournaments. These were the June Smith Ladies’ Singles and the Jan May Memorial Ladies Pairs. The singles was taken out by Clare Shanaher over Aileen Barnes and the Pairs completed a double for Clare, along with her partner Sherralee Boyce over a gallant pairing in Wendy Carlson and Pauline Morris.
At the start of June, Hornby held the South Island Ladies and Open Tournaments. Whilst it was a massive week, we managed to get through it relatively well. A new polo shirt was designed especially for this and it was a hit, looking smart. With huge numbers in the open singles (210 players) from all over the country, we managed to finish the tournament at a relatively good hour on the final day.
There were some great finals in both, but the Ladies’ Singles was taken out in style by JoJo Coleman from Cashmere over Jasmine Purdon from Papanui. JoJo, and Zarrie Wood, also took out the Ladies’ Pairs over Letitia Jackson and Maxine Soal from Hornby.The Open Singles was taken out in spectacular fashion by Dan Bowen from Cashmere over a gallant Ceri Worts and the open pairs was won by Steve Denton and Chris Geary from Cashmere over Greg Hammond and Andy Hickey from Clubs of Marlborough.
