July 2021 Cards Update

Hello, welcome to all members.

Once again over the last two months, we have had lots happening within our Euchre/Cards Section. Even though we are into the Winter months, we have lots happening as our regular card players know.

Firstly, we finished off our first round of Saturday Interclub /Euchre after seven games – with all going for a chance to win that ultimate Shield Trophy, which we have won previously. Now we are concentrating on the next five weeks, as we are sitting in second position behind Woolston Club. Watch this space and next month’s newsletter for the results. The last game will be held on 31 July which is our bye game.

We had our Bye Day Game on 12 June (from Interclub) and wanted to include other section members for a bit of fun. We had 32 members come and share a great afternoon upstairs. We started a little earlier and thanks to Bernie McKenzie and her husband Russell, we organised four rounds of Multi Quiz. A close competition, we held four rounds of 40 odd questions with final winners being Poss, Theresa, Tony Bakhos and Marlene Troon. Well done to the winners who won valuable Club Vouchers. Thanks again to Bernie and Russell. Lunch was then served by our Club staff and it was awesome and enjoyed by all. We then all played five games of Bingo/Housie, with chocolates or Club Vouchers up for grabs to be won. We finished off with just seven games of Pairs Euchre. Prizes went to best scores.

Feedback suggests that everyone had a great, social day. We try to make these fun days enjoyable for our members, so that feedback is great to hear.

We are now into first Aggregate over six weeks, with five best scores, which finishes on 8 July. Our up-to-date aggregate scores are displayed on the White Board every Thursday night upstairs. A big thanks to Bev Bulmer who compiles the results.

Our members have started to play our Winter Tournament games, which is an in-house tournament for euchre section members. We have 12 teams playing pairs. There are four Pairs in each section with three sections playing most times in the Legends bar. Winners will go through to semis and finals.

Just a reminder that our combined Euchre vs Crib “ Thelma Dawson” Trophy will be held on Wednesday 4 July this year at 7pm. Organised by the Crib Section, we would like our euchre section to come and play euchre to make up the numbers, you can also play crib.

The All Sports Committee have announced the ALAN COLE EUCHRE Tournament will be held on Sunday 8 August at 1pm. It is open to all sections, requiring 10 players per team which involves every section playing euchre against every other section. Over the years we have had such a great turnout from our Club sections. This tournament is a long-time tournament and a part of our heritage and club euchre/card section history. Please can all sections put forward a team, it is a great, social day.

To finish off with our cards section update, we now have 103 paid up members. We are a growing section and welcome any new members that wish to come along and play euchre.
