February 2023 Euchre & Cards update

Welcome back to all our special Hornby Club Members.

No doubt, our Hornby Card Section members will be looking forward to the start of our Euchre section activities for this year.

Firstly, I would just like to recap on our last years combined Xmas Hamper Night function back on Thursday 1st December. It was a fun, social night with just on 70 members in attendance. Starting off the evening at 6.30pm we had presentation of four trophies.

The Winter Tournament winners of the Shield were Kevin and Trish Cole, with the Runners-up, Lorraine Cole and Diane Heath. The inaugural Owen Bright Challenge Trophy Cup was presented by his daughter Sandra Winter to the winners, Diane Findlay and Sharon Smith. The new “3 handed Trophy” was this year won by Jimmy Patu, and presented to him. Lastly the Euchre Trophy, was presented by Mary Churchill (last year’s recipient) to Marina Coles, in recognition of Marina’s fun personality she shares on our card nights.

We then had our meal, followed by eight games of cards starting at 8pm, with some members also partaking in Bernie and Russell’s quiz activities as well.

Hamper Prizes were paid out to the top 23 score cards and included four hams and two large gift baskets, with lots other Christmas goods. As dessert for supper was served, we had pay-outs of the free raffle with just on 43 hamper prizes offered to everyone on their two free tickets received when they entered.

All in all, everyone should have had a great night.

So going forward, we have on Thursday 2 February, starting at 7pm, our popular casual fun opening night, with a mix of starting with a few Bingo Housie Games and then a few games of Euchre. We will finish off the evening with a light supper. The cost for the night will be $10 per person. We look forward to our regular section members coming along. To any new Hornby Club members who have been thinking of joining our Euchre Section, you are more than welcome to come and meet us all on this fun social night. Upstairs in the Mezzanine Floor.

We start our normal club Euchre nights the following week, February 9 at 7pm. You will need to report earlier to purchase score cards for $3.00. Raffles will also be for sale to help section funds. We play 12 games of progressive Euchre (you do not require a set partner, you move each game ) We are finished by 9.30pm every night.

Thursday 16, normal night as well. But on Thursday 23, the last Thursday of the month, we usually have monthly “Pairs Night ” on this last Thursday.

This is when you play with the same partner for the 12 games. This always creates atmosphere on the night! If you haven’t got partner, please still come along, hopefully we can pair you up with another member.

Just for your information, The Cards Euchre Section has a notice board where we share activities and tournaments and what’s happening within our section. If you don’t get to check our regular whiteboard every Thursday night upstairs, this notice board is down towards main Legends Bar, under the stairway upstairs to the Mezzanine Floor. Please keep an eye on this board as to what’s happening within our section. We will be putting up our Euchre Section Programme for 2023 shortly, showing all Thursday night events and extra events.
