February 2022 Cards Update

Wednesday 2 Feb, 2022

Welcome back Hornby Members and friends to 2022. Who knows how this year will transpire, with possible ongoing Covid conditions, but we just have to continue on and make the most of it.

A special welcome to all our Card Section Members, who I am sure are just waiting to get back into our regular Thursday Night Euchre Nights.

Firstly, I would like to give a recap of our Euchre Section final Christmas Hamper Night held back on 2 December. We had a great turnout with 15 tables and 59 card players plus another 12 social members there as well.

We started off the evening with a finger food meal, then played eight games of cards, with sweets and tea n coffee to finish off. Everyone enjoyed the food.

We also had a table of non-playing card members who had their own special task of completing question sheets of various trivia. The trivia was kindly compiled by committee member Bernie and husband Russell McKenzie. They really enjoyed their challenge questions and evening as well.

We then proceeded to pay out the array of 20 Card Hamper Prizes to those who had the best card scores in order and drew out the 20 Christmas prizes for the raffle as well. We had lucky table numbers as well to add to atmosphere.

We also announced the results of the Winter Tournament, many games played throughout the year amongst 12 different pairs of members divided into 3 sections, down to the last final winning pairs in final. This year the winners of the Trophy were Kevin Cole and Trish Cole. Runner up was Diane Findlay and Sharon, and in third Lorraine Cole and Diane Heath.

We finished off the year, with a couple of extra card euchre nights on 9 and 16 of December as we had lost so many other nights during the year to Covid. Those that came on these two nights appreciated the extra chance to play.

So now what’s on this year…

Unfortunately, as we are now in Red, cards will not resume until we are in Orange setting.

Our Card Section AGM is scheduled to be held on Thursday 28th April, please save the date.

Our first Saturday Card Interclub Game is on Saturday 30 April, we will give details for eligibility to play these games next month and confirm whether it is able to go ahead – depending on our Covid setting.

Regards,
Lorraine Cole
