February 2022 Travel Update
Wednesday 2 Feb, 2022
Hi everyone and welcome to 2022
I hope you have all had an enjoyable break and are looking forward to seeing what 2022 has in store for us all.
The travel section finished off last year with a fabulous Christmas party held upstairs in the Hornby Club Events Centre on 17 December. Everybody seemed to have a damn good time and the wonderful band of Cherbro saw to it that there was plenty of music to enjoy. These guys just never seem to want to take a break. The supper, as arranged by Tracey Green, was fabulous as it always is. Unfortunately, we had 14 people less than what we catered for. We had four no shows, and a further ten who cancelled on the day, but of course too late to change the catering numbers. These things happen and no problem apart from the waste of food. Thanks to all those who helped out to make this such an enjoyable evening.
Prior to the Christmas party we had a visit to the Himalayan lilies on 12 December. This also was an enjoyable day for those that attended, apart from the fact that it did rain rather heavily on the day which spoilt things. We then went to the Homestead on the outskirts of Geraldine for a most enjoyable lunch.
We have had five new members join our section already this year, so a big welcome goes out to you all.
Unfortunately, we are unable to finalise the Bluff, Milford and Central Otago trip as yet. The Bluff Oyster festival has been cancelled and a special meeting has been arranged to decide the future of this trip.
Other Future Events
The trip to The Antarctic Centre notice is on the notice board. We will experience two hours there to experience a 4d film, storm room and backstage with penguins. This will be followed by drinks and nibbles at the Lone Star Spitfire. The total cost is $30 for The Antarctic Centre, including a coach there and return. Any drinks or nibbles at Lone Star is at your own cost.
The 6 March trip on the Lyttleton Tug for 1 1/2hrs followed by “Fives with food” is now advertised on the travel section notice board. We will depart the Hornby Club at 1pm, sail on the tug for 1 1/2hours, then coach to Fisherman’s Wharf for “Fives with food” at 4.30pm to approximately 6.30pm. The cost for this will be $45 per person.
Remember you must have you vaccine passport to attend any of these outings.
The next section meeting is Monday 21 February at 7pm upstairs at the Hornby Club.
Warm regards,
Lynn Wright
