December 2024 – Travel Update

Sunday 1 Dec, 2024

Hello Members,

On Sunday, 20th October, 45 members travelled to Banks Peninsula for a wine and cheese tasting day. We left the Hornby Club at 10:15 am, with our first stop being Barrys Bay Cheese Factory. Due to us paying a small fee for the cheese tasting, which they normally offer for free, they were generous in providing us with eight different cheeses to taste, each in good-sized portions. Many members purchased their favorites to take home, and everyone enjoyed the time spent there.

Next, we moved on to Takamatua Organic Wines for tastings. The wines were lovely, though on the pricey side. However, quite a few members did purchase wine to take home after the tasting.

Our final stop was at the Grand Hotel for a late lunch at 2 pm. It was a good opportunity to relax, chat, and enjoy each other’s company, though the time went by quickly. While it wasn’t our first choice for lunch, it can be difficult to find places that can accommodate a group of 45 people. Many restaurants and wineries simply cannot fit in such a large number. We were grateful that the Grand Hotel accepted our group without enforcing a buffet meal, which would have been expensive. It was a full day, and most of us thoroughly enjoyed the outing.

Christmas Party:

Our Christmas Party will be held on 7th December in the Events Hall at the Club. The cost is $25, which covers supper and music. There will also be six lucky draws, including two half hams. Entrance is by ticket only and the number of attendees has been confirmed with the Club office. However, if you’d still like to purchase a ticket, I’m sure we can fit you in.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we thank all our members for their continued support.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, 20th January 2025.

Kind regards,
Lyn Wright
