December 2024 – Cards Update
Sunday 1 Dec, 2024
Hello to all members and families,
As the year draws to a close, it’s my pleasure to bring you this final report on our Euchre card section activities.
Going back to last month:
- Thursday 31st October – We had our end-of-month pairs night, always played with competitive spirit amongst all. We had 15 full tables and 60 players, which continues to show how popular this night is. The top-scoring pair was Ricky Winter and Paul Bulman on 19 points (they skipped away before the photo!!). Tied second equal on 17 points were Greg and Nicky Timms and Diane Heath and Lorraine Cole.
- Thursday 7th November – It was our normal progressive night with 48 players. The top scorer on the night was Gwen Kirk with 18 points, followed by a tie for second place between Dave McKay and Warren Grimwood.
- Thursday 14th November – We had our special 6-handed night, where teams of three battled it out amongst other teams. We had a good turnout of 50 players. As a special treat, we provided a lovely supper that added to the evening’s enjoyment. The delicious spread allowed everyone to take a half-time break, socialize, and recharge before getting back into the reduced number of games. The evening finished off with a remarkable four-way team tie for the top points of 10.
- Thursday 21st November – It was another normal progressive night, with 48 players. There was an impressive top score by Bruce McIntosh, who scored 23 points. It was good scoring 23 out of a possible 24 points. Well done, Bruce!
Our last Pairs night for 2024 will be held on Thursday 28th November. This will be a fun night for sure.
We have our final activity on Thursday 5th December, which will be our Christmas Hamper Night. The night will include trophy presentations, a meal, and then we will play limited games of Euchre. There will be lots of chances to win Xmas Hamper Prizes, either by playing cards or from the many raffle prizes available. More details and photos will be available in the New Year magazine.
Our New Year activities will restart in early February. Please check our Card Section Notice Board for updates, and we will email members as well in the New Year.
This year, we’ve enjoyed a wide array of different card activities, each bringing its own excitement with challenging games, memorable moments, making new friends, and a lot of fun for our section members. We want to express our appreciation for the loyalty and contributions from all our members. Your enthusiasm and dedication are what make our Euchre card section great.
On behalf of our Card Committee, we wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to another year of fun, friendship, and card game activities in our Euchre section, and welcome new members to come join us next year.
Regards,
Lorraine Cole
