August 2025 – Travel Update
Friday 1 Aug, 2025
The Travel section’s last outing was our mid-winter dinner on 28th June in the function room at the Tai Tapu Hotel. We had 64 members attend and all seemed to really enjoy. We had one coach leave from Hornby Club with the second one leaving from the Halswell Library at 5pm. The coaches returned us at 9.30pm. There was a superb dinner selection to choose from, including turkey, ham, roast pork and chicken coq au vin followed by mini pavlova or Christmas pudding.
Trips that are planned and in the planning stage are:
Our section is putting a team in for the Alan Cole tournament on Sunday 3rd August, commencing at 1pm.
Train trip to Moana Lake Brunner on 31st August on the Alpine Express and return. The train leaves at 8.15am with check in at 7.45am at the railway station. We will be met at the Lake Brunner station by staff from Moana Hotel and delivered to Kingfisher restaurant. Please note the overhead bridge is currently closed so the transport to hotel will be well received. Kingfisher hotel are putting on a lovely lunch for us all, everyone has made their choice by now so can be pre booked and pre-paid. Train is due to arrive back at Addington railway station at 7pm. This is now closed.
We are in the planning stage of tickets to the Christchurch symphony Orchestra prom evening; a notice is on travel section notice board and will close on 18th August.
In addition, a Sunday wine trip to a couple of wineries, visit to Iron Ridge Sculpture with a stop off planned on return to Hornby Club at the Leithfield Hotel for a couple of hours chat time and food is available if you wish to purchase.
We are also having our Christmas party earlier this year to avoid dates clashing with other Christmas functions. Our date is Friday 21st November, this will be a great band along with very nice Hornby Club excellent standard supper.
Kind regards, Lyn
