August 2025 – Cards Update

Friday 1 Aug, 2025

Hi everyone.
Here we are coming into August. Our Cards Section is still as full on with our card activities. On Thursday nights it is our Euchre Club night. The Saturday after is the Euchre/Crib Interclub games and the Monday after a small group playing ‘500’.

Over the last month, we completed the last three weeks of Aggregate Games. The individual winners on these nights were Sharon Lord, Marcia Whaanga, and Lesley Bulman. So, this then completed the long anticipated final placings for Aggregate Prize Winners. First was Bill Turei 81pts, second John Churchill 78pts, third James Kavanagh 76pts. These six weeks of play created some healthy competition and much enthusiasm.

We are getting a good turnout of members each Thursday night, ranging from 48–56 members, with still new members coming along to join us.
We have had two payouts over the last few weeks, with members getting dealt the “perfect hand” to play. Gina Howden-Winter and Rosita Law. Does not happen often, they get the accumulated cash jackpot!

Our Cards Section are also running on Monday afternoons, games of ‘500’. This has been running for the last few weeks, with small numbers at this stage. We are hoping we will get more playing as weather improves. Those that come are enjoying the afternoon. It starts at 1pm and finishes at 3.30pm.

We are into our last round of Sat Interclub Euchre/Crib, with weekly mixed results so far. We kicked off our first game on 25th April, with 15 weeks of play to complete and the last game set for 23rd August. As we get closer to the end, we wait in anticipation, as all results vary.

Our Winter Tournament Games are progressing between the 12 pairs. These games are mainly played in the Legends Bar at any time of day. As play and time goes on, there will be a result of the overall winners of ‘The Shield Trophy’, to be presented at our Xmas Break-up.

We have just had our Accumulated Scores Night, with 58 players. Scores are accumulated in a different format than normal. The overall winner being Ross Ranger on 90 pts, Lesley 88 pts, and Maurice King, 84 pts.

Next week will be our fun end of month Pairs night, which is always enjoyed by everyone. I will update next month.

In Mid-August we have a team of 10 travel to Weymouth Cosy Club in Auckland to play in the Clubs NZ National Singles Euchre Tournament. We hope the two full days of cards go our way, but that will be determined by the competition!

Until next month.
