August 2021 Pool Update
Monday 2 Aug, 2021
Hi guys and gals,
Where has the year gone peeps. We are halfway through the year and Xmas is fast approaching!
In June, Canterbury held their Open and Ladies pairs. Aileen Barnes and Louise Kerr were trying to go back-to-back, but ended up losing to the Woolston pairing of Sharyn Syder and Roxanne Burgess.
In the open, Adam Chapman and Barry Henderson made the semi-final in the main, going down to the eventual winners, Sam Hopkinson and Mike Hayes. John Gower and Paul Buckingham made the final of the main flight, but the Trophy event was taken out by Simon Stubbs and Mike Jeffrey.
The Ladies Nationals, as well as the National Masters were held at the Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club in July. Hornby were represented by five in the Ladies and six in the Masters.
In the ladies’ pairs, Clare Shanaher and Sherralee Boyce were runners-up in the main flight event and in the singles Clare Shanaher and Maxine Soal made the last 16. Sherralee Boyce made the last 32, which, in a field of around 110 ladies is a huge effort. The Hornby ladies were also runners up in the team’s event, coming second behind Swanson RSA.
In the master’s pairs, Barry Henderson and Lee Taylor made it to the quarter finals in the main event of the pairs.
In the singles, Barry Henderson made the last eight in the main, beating some very good players along the way to get there.
Leo Tafu and Paul Blackler made the last 16 in the main flight.
We have had one in house tournament, and this was taken out by Clare Shanaher and Sherralee Boyce (at right) winning over Aileen Barnes and Liz Hullen.
Next month we have a tournament every weekend, so I look forward to reporting on these in August.
Regards,
