August 2021 Cards Update

Welcome to all members.
August will be another busy month for many of our Section members as we complete our 12 weeks of Saturday Interclub/ Euchre Games. I will update in next month’s magazine how we went overall.
We have completed our first set of six-week aggregate games, with the best scores collated for each person over five of them. The winners are, first: Anne Hepburn on 79 pts, second: Warren Grimwood on 78 pts and third: Gwen Kirk on 74 pts. Congratulations to all of them, and to those who were close behind in points. We are starting another round of Aggregate Games, from Thursday 5 August through to Thursday 9 September. Games are progressing in our In- House Winter Tournament games, amongst the teams of 12 pairs playing.
We had our popular Pairs Night on the last Thursday of July. It is a great event, where members always enjoy playing amongst each other. Well done to the winners on the night. Tea, Coffee and Refreshments were available on the night.
On Wednesday 4 August we will be playing games with the Crib Section competing for the ‘Thelma Dawson’ Trophy. In addition, our members are looking forward to playing in the All Sports Tournament, the “Alan Cole Euchre Trophy” on Sunday 8 August against the other Club Sports Sections. It is always a fun social day.
We have a team of 10 members travelling to the National Singles Euchre Championship Tournament at Porirua Club, Wellington, during weekend of 14 and 15 August. It was cancelled last year, due to Covid 19, so it is great to get back into it again. It will be a busy weekend, as we play 36 games of euchre on the Saturday, and another 27 games on the Sunday. Hope the cards are in favour with us!
There will be no Pairs Night on Thursday 26 August, as we will still be playing Aggregate Games.
Hornby Club is hosting a six handed Euchre Tournament on Sunday 29 August. It is open to all members from other clubs. If you are keen to join us, get a team of three together and come and play for the afternoon. We always get good numbers.
