April 2023 Travel Update

Saturday 1 Apr, 2023

Hello to everyone,

Our train trip to Kaikoura on 1 March was an excellent day out.

With check in at 6.30am, it all went smoothly with no hold ups whatsoever. There was considerable fog on the way up in places which of course dented the viewabit. Otherwise, everythingwasfine.Wewere met at Kaikoura station by Katrina from Kaikoura shuttles.

Katrina and I carefully chose a day that there would be no cruises in town, but unfortunately due to there being a cruise cancelled two weeks earlier because of weather they then chose to use the 1st as their replacement date. However, Katrina did an excellent job of hiring another coach for us and driver along with a lady who gave a full commentary on the town.

Unfortunately, some at the back of the bus did miss out on hearing the commentary as the PA system was not working, It was a bonus to have her on board anyway, as it wasn’t scheduled. We had a 2 1/2hr sightseeing tour before being dropped off at the Sudima hotel for lunch.

The lunch was fabulous and we were left with time to walk about the town before boarding the train to go home.

Approximately 30 members took the advantage of the supplied coach to visit the Oxford Club for their pre Paddy’s day celebration on 12 March. It appears all those who attended had a most enjoyable afternoon out.

Our next meeting will be our AGM on Monday 17 April at 7pm at the Hornby Club.

A notice for travel committee nominations will be placed on travel notice by the time this newsletter is printed.

Warm regards,
Lyn Wright
