April 2023 Darts Update

Saturday 1 Apr, 2023

Well, the South Island darts are done for another year.

It seems at times it would never start and then never finish but we got there and had some great results along the way. Hornby had six teams in the mixed and ended with Lucas and Maata in 5th equal and Vernaleigh and Kayden taking the title.

Next day was the pairs and we had four ladies and the DTH (defending title holders) Vernaleigh and Sarah finished 5th equal and Maata and Raewyn retained their title.

So, two events down and 2 wins, couldn’t wish for a better start. The men had 10 pairs with Rob and Leslie 5th equal and Doug and Scott 3rd equal, both in the plate round.

In the main round, our top 3 pairs were Lance and Elliot in 9th equal, Mark and Lucas 5th equal and Kayden and Jordan narrowly losing the final after being in control, but that is the beauty of the game bloody doubles.

Ladies’ singles and we had 7 in with Raewyn 5th equal and Tanyia 3rd equal, both in the plate round. In the main round was Sarah 5th equal and Maata 3rd equal.

After the ladies, was the Junior boys and our very promising Tyler was 3rd equal and then the Youth male with Kayden being the DTH he was looking unbeatable and was, so only men’s singles to go and looking strong for the aggregate cup, what could possibly go wrong?

With 25 in, maybe one of them could win, maybe. So, I go home for 1 hour to pack my golf clubs and return to find out our no 25 is the only 1 left. Well done, Gary, with a 5th equal in the main round. A few things to note, Kayden had the highest break 170 by 7 mins from Kelvin and to the naming of the South Island teams.

Jordan and Kayden with Lance 3rd reserve in the men and ladies Vernaleigh, Sarah, Maata and Raewyn. Very well done.

Teams to play North Island at the nationals in Porirua in August. If you like a game come along and give it a go.
